Why travel? The better question is why not...
As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, it is critical for our students to become more culturally aware and globally-minded. To be able to experience the global classroom first-hand and see what they have been studying in their classes come to life is truly amazing. It gives them new perspectives – not only of themselves - but also of the world around them.
In a recent article on Huffington Post, Kay Rodriguez perfectly summarized the importance of a global education in her writing - Why Student Travel is More Important than Ever Before:
"Employers and graduate schools recognize the value and importance of international experience, and it is certainly a desirable quality in potential candidates. Additionally, the skills you acquire through travel are some of the most valuable in the professional world, such as independence, networking, and bilingualism...
Most importantly, however, investing in travel is like investing in an education - the results are intangible but extremely valuable. You will learn so much more than you do from a textbook, or from a class lecture, or from taking test after test with minimal sleep. Through travel, you have the opportunity to see first-hand the things you've learned, to put into practice the skills you've acquired. You gain a global perspective and a strong independence that no other teaching method can impart. Travel teaches tolerance, self-sufficiency, and resourcefulness as well, three key skills that you can use for the rest of your life. Without travel, you will only see the world on a screen or in a book, but you will never get to experience it for yourself."

Hulse's International Travel Experiences
For my wife and I, traveling is more than just a hobby - its a passion and a way of life. Our traveling experiences have opened doors we never knew existed and helped us develop so many relationships with some of the most amazing people around the world.
In 2010, as a naive college student unsure of my future path, I set out on an adventure that would forever change my life. I took a leap of faith and traveled on my own to Kenya where I worked as a medical intern in surgical ward in Mombasa. Following my time in Mombasa, I was provided an opportunity to join hands with CTC International in the rural community of Maai Mahiu. Although the people in this small community had next to nothing to offer materialistically, they offered so much in laughter, conversations, and most importantly - friendship. My experiences in Kenya opened my eyes to a world much larger and deeper than I could have ever anticipated. In my travels... I dreamed. I explored. I discovered. List of travel experiences:

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life,
and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
